• Brownsburg police department receives two awards

    On July 30th, 2011, the Brownsburg Police Department received two awards from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) for Excellence and Meritorious achievements after an on-site assessment and interviews with various employees. Chief Michael Dove, Police Commissioners, Ray Kotarski and Allan Bolante and Accreditation Manager, Kimberly Shupert attended the Award Ceremony and interviewed in front of a four panel CALEA Review Panel in Cincinnati, Ohio in July.

    These awards came after an Assessment Team of two people visited the Brownsburg Police Department on April 30th through May 3rd, 2011.

    The Brownsburg Police Department has been Nationally Accredited since 1996. The Department undergoes an assessment every three years. The assessment that occurred in April through May 2011 was the sixth one that the PD has undergone.

    In the CALEA Summary Report that was issued by the Assessment Team from the April 2011 through May 2011 stated, “The most impressive aspect of the agency is the commitment of the leadership that the agency has toward the employees”. The Report also stated, “Although the agency has only 40 sworn officers they offer several community policing programs for the community”. The report concluded with the commendation of Chief Michael Dove and Accreditation Manager, Kimberly Shupert for excellence in their preparation of the files and agency employees for the on-site.

    Chief Michael Dove commented, “I am extremely proud of all of the personnel here at the BPD. This Accreditation process went professionally and smoothly because our employees embrace the process when writing the written directives. We strive for excellence and I believe that these awards merely validate our dedication and professionalism. I want to express a special appreciation for the Accreditation Manager, Kimberly Shupert, for her outstanding job.”
