• Brownsburg hosts “Back Home Again in Indiana” community celebration

    April 11, 2012 No comments

Brownsburg area residents are invited to celebrate the Town’s motorsports heritage at a special event on Saturday, April 28. As part of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s “Back Home Again in Indiana” contest, the community celebration will honor the drivers and cars that have raced at the IMS’ famed 2.5-mile oval and showcase the different series that help racers make their way up the ladder to compete in the Indianapolis 500.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Brownsburg Town Hall complex with the theme “Paving the Way to Indy.” A special performance of the song “Back Home Again in Indiana,” a highlight of the Indy 500 pre-race ceremonies, will kick off the event followed by a balloon release.

A variety of race cars will be on display and attendees will get the chance to win Indy 500 qualifications tickets in a fun pit stop competition. There will be kids’ activities and the local band Unstable Fault Line will perform.

Photos and videos of the community celebration will be part of Brownsburg’s “Back Home Again in Indiana” contest entry. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway will award $20,000 to the winning community. Brownsburg was a Top 10 finalist in the 2011 contest. If chosen as the winner, the prize money will help fund future community improvement projects through the Brownsburg Community Matching Grants Fund in the Hendricks County Community Foundation.

All Brownsburg businesses and residents are encouraged to decorate for the month-long contest, and race fans may exhibit Indy 500 memorabilia in the Town Hall exhibit. Everyone who participates in the decorating contest or the exhibit will receive Indy 500 qualifications tickets and have a chance to win tickets for the 500-mile race on May 27.
