• Brownsburg Community Schools hosting meetings on proposed school calendars

Brownsburg Schools’ parents and community members will have opportunities to voice their preference on a school calendar for next year. Dr. Jim Snapp, BCSC superintendent, has three public meetings planned to answer questions and gather feedback on the calendar options.

    • 9/19 Delaware Trail Elementary School at 7 p.m.

    • 9/20 Brownsburg East Middle School at 7 p.m.

    • 9/21 Eagle Elementary School at 7 p.m.

Two options, a traditional calendar, similar to the 2011-2012 BCSC calendar, and a “balanced” calendar are under consideration. The “balanced” calendar concept is gaining traction in area school districts with IPS and Warren Townships already using it, Wayne planning on it for 2012-2013 and other Hendricks County school districts giving their staffs and communities opportunities to consider it.

Sometimes confused with a “year-round” calendar, the “balanced” calendar allows for eight weeks of summer break with the grading periods being divided by two-week breaks.

The Brownsburg community is also invited to share their preference on a survey available through the school corporation website www.brownsburg.k12.in.us.
