• Brownsburg cheerleaders bring home state title

    August 24, 2011 No comments

The Brownsburg High School cheerleading squad claimed the Indiana State Fair Cheerleading championship Saturday at the Indiana Convention Center.

As this is the final competition of the season, BHS is sending its senior out on a successful note.

One aspect that was different this year was a change of venue to the Indiana Convention Center. The competition, traditionally held at the Indiana State Fair Grandstand, had to be moved after the stage area collapsed Aug. 13, killing seven people and injuring more than 40 others. Much of the wreckage is still in place to allow investigators to look into the cause of the accident.

Prior to competing in the state competition, the Brownsburg squad finished third overall at the Hendricks County Fair –second in the county to Avon –and second at the Marion County Fair, by just one point.

Avon High School placed fifth in the competition, Tri-West High School finished sixth, and Danville Community High School finished seventh.
