• Brownsburg Awarded Grant for Water Treatment Facility

    December 17, 2010 No comments

The Town of Brownsburg is among seven Indiana communities awarded grants to improve the energy efficiency of their water treatment facilities. The Energy Efficiency for Water Treatment (EEWT) grant of $72,235 will help the Town retrofit its water and wastewater treatment facilities with premium efficiency motors and install variable frequency drives.

Brownsburg’s Water Department will replace two 22-year-old high service pump motors with premium efficiency motors fitted with variable frequency drives. The Wastewater Department will install premium efficiency motors in place of the blower motor that supplies air to the wastewater treatment plant’s sludge holding tank, four 25-year-old motors at the East Plant pretreatment facility, and 12 motors that operate oxidation ditches.

The projects, which require a 50 percent funding match by the Town, will be completed by April 2011. The improved energy performance will result in significantly decreased energy consumption and costs, reduced fossil fuel emissions, and increased public awareness on the value of energy efficiency. With the immediate savings, the Town anticipates that the upgrades could pay for themselves in the first year of operation.
