• Brownsburg a finalist in Indianapolis Motor Speedway contest

    May 15, 2012 No comments

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway named Brownsburg as a finalist in its “Back Home Again in Indiana” contest celebrating the Indianapolis 500.  The Town of Brownsburg partnered with the Brownsburg Chamber of Commerce to honor the legendary Brownsburg drivers who have raced at the IMS’ famed 2.5-mile oval and celebrate young drivers who may have an Indy 500 in their future.

Fans will help determine the “Back Home Again in Indiana” contest winner through online voting. Fans may vote for Brownsburg once each day per email address at www.IndianapolisMotorSpeedway.com/BackHomeAgainInIndiana

The Speedway will award $20,000 to the winning community. If chosen as the winner, Brownsburg will use the prize money to help residents and businesses fund community improvement projects through the Brownsburg Community Matching Grants Fund in the Hendricks County Community Foundation.

Brownsburg’s entry theme “Paving the Way to Indy” acknowledges the many forms of racing represented in our community that help racers make their way up the ladder to compete in the Indianapolis 500. A special exhibit of Indy 500 memorabilia from the personal collections of the Babe Stapp, Joe Saldana, Larry Rice, Bill Puterbaugh, Pancho Carter and Carl Forberg families is on display at Brownsburg Town Hall through the end of May.

The Town held a community celebration in April to kick off the contest, with a special performance of the song “Back Home Again in Indiana,” a balloon release, race cars on display, a fun pit stop competition, and live entertainment. See Brownsburg’s photos at Facebook.com/BrownsburgBackHomeAgainInIndiana. Watch the Town’s entry video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNXN5s3I1bw

Community members are invited to join a photo opportunity on Pole Day Saturday at 10:45 a.m. at the IMS Pagoda Plaza Yard of Bricks.
