Although Brownsburg finished the regular season with a record of 7 – 13, the Bulldogs began the playoffs last night at the Southport sectional winners of five out of their last seven and took a modest two-game winning streak into their first-round matchup with Decatur Central.

It was the second time the Bulldogs had faced the Hawks this season as Brownsburg had been on the losing end of a 69 – 68 contest in overtime back on December 29. This time the stakes were higher with the right to advance to the sectional semifinals of the 2012 IHSAA boys high school basketball tournament at stake as Brownsburg took advantage of their chances at the free-throw line to knock off Decatur Central 57 – 44.

The Bulldogs went to the line 33 times and converted on 21 of those attempts outscoring the Hawks by 13 points from the charity stripe which proved to be the margin of victory.

The Bulldogs trailed by a bucket after the end of the first quarter 12 – 10, but went on to outscore Decatur Central 23 – 11 through the second and third quarters.

Jaraan Lands had a game-high 16 points for Brownsburg and Kenneth Walton finished with 15 for the Bulldogs.

Anthony Johnson and Diamond Seltzer scored in double figures for Decatur Central with 15 and 12 points, respectively.

The Bulldogs advance to the sectional semifinals on Friday night where they will take on the 17 – 6 Ben Davis Giants in game two of the sectional semifinal doubleheader. The first game will pit the Avon Orioles against the Pike Red Devils, which is scheduled to tipoff at 6:00.
