• B&O Trail seeks local art students for mural project

Graffiti on the walls of a new trail tunnel has B&O Trail leaders seeking local art students to create a public mural.

The trail tunnel under Ronald Reagan Parkway is covered with profanity, slurs and gang symbols. However, Diana Virgil hopes to turn a negative into a positive.

Virgil said in a prepared statement, “Help us create a destination of beautiful individual murals. This is an opportunity for Avon and Brownsburg students to represent their school and their town. This is an opportunity for artists to paint.”

Each section is 8 feet wide and 8 feet tall, Virgil said. After the murals are painted, an anti-graffiti coating will cover the paintings that will allow any future graffiti to be washed off easily.

Students can submit mural designs by email at botrail@earthlink.net or by mail to B&O Trail, 6038 Walnut Court, Brownsburg, IN 46112.

Three miles of the trail including portions from Raceway Road to Ind. 267 are nearly completed with landscaping, sign installation and striping remaining.
