• Bat’s Score Six over Last Two to Down Tribe

Louisville rallied from a 3-0 deficit, scoring three runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth as the Bats overcame the Indianapolis Indians 6-3 on Monday night at Victory Field.

Tribe starter Charlie Morton was brilliant in the contest as he allowed just four base runners, while striking out four over six scoreless innings of work.

The Indians’ offense gave Morton an early advantage as they plated single runs in the first, second and sixth innings. CF Alex Presley got the Tribe on the board in the first with an RBI single before the Indians powered their way to a 3-0 advantage with solo home runs by 1B John Bowker and LF Kevin Melillo.

The home run for Bowker was his third in an Indians’ uniform this season, while the shot for Melillo was his ninth on the year.

However, it was all for naught as the Louisville came alive with six runs over the final two innings.

Corky Miller began the comeback with a bang when he blasted one over the wall in straight away center field for his sixth homer of the season in the eighth inning. Yonder Alonso later evened the score at three with a two run homer to right.

Louisville’s late inning magic continued in the ninth, when following a lead-off walk by LF Todd Frazier and single by 2B Wilkin Castillo, Miller roped what turned out to be the game-winning two-run double down the left field line.

Bats’ starter Chad Reineke pitched well, but did not figure in the final decision as he allowed three runs on four hits, while striking out five over six innings of work. Louisville reliever Philippe-Alexandre Valiquette earned the victory to improve to 1-1 with an inning of scoreless relief, before lefty flame thrower Aroldis Chapman struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth on his way to his eighth save of the season.

Tribe reliever Steven Jackson suffered his first blown save of the season after allowing three runs on four hits in just an inning of work, while fellow reliever Jean Machi suffered the loss to fall to 5-5 on the season after surrendering three runs on three hits and two walks in just 0.2 of an inning of work.

The Indians now head to Louisville to continue their five-game home/road series against their West Division rivals the Bats on Tuesday, August 24 at 7:05 p.m. RHP Mike Crotta is expected to get the start for the Tribe, while RHP Sam LeCure is the probable starter for the Bats.
