• Avon marching band to have Saturday fundraiser for Rose Bowl trip

    August 24, 2011 No comments

The Marching Black and Gold is preparing to hit the national stage Jan. 2, 2012, performing before millions in the Rose Bowl Parade.

But the band is still looking to raise funds to finance the trip. The goal is $125,000.

With that in mind, they are hosting a Rose Parade Band Bash from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Five Star Catering at Primo West in Plainfield. Richard W. Jackson, Tournament of Roses president, and his wife, Sharon, will be guests at the event.

So far, the band has only been able to raise between $30,000 and $40,000, falling far short of their goal. Because of that there are 30 to 40 students who will not be able to make the trip.

The students are also selling “discount cards,” to aid in this fundraising effort.

In support of the band, Primo has waived its deadline requirement and is accepting reservations up to a couple of days prior to the event. The cost for the Band Bash is $65 and reservations may be made online at www.avonband.com/bash.

People are also invited to donate anytime at www.avonband.com/donate-2.
