• Avon High School’s principal resigns as classes start this week

Avon High School will open its doors this Wednesday to students for the first day of classes. However, when students take their seats they will likely be missing a principal as Mike Swank resigned effective immediately on Friday, according to the Avon Community School Corporation.

The resignation was brought on by “personal reasons,” according to a letter from Avon Community School Corporation superintendent Margaret Hoernemann.

It was not immediately clear what prompted the resignation, however it was reported that Swank had been on leave for part of the week leading up to this.

Hoernemann said in her letter that the school corporation was in the process of hiring an interim principal.

Swank was named the associate principal in March of 2009 but his stay as principal of the high school after taking over for previous principal Rick Adcock was short. Swank took over the position in January of this year.

Adcock announced his retirement last fall and left in December of 2011.
