Avon High School will be one of 25 schools in the state honored by state officials Wednesday for achievement in advanced placement.

Avon High School will be recognized by the Indiana Department of Education at a reception at D’Amore on the 48th floor of the Chase Tower in downtown Indianapolis.

Among the dignitaries on hand will be state superintendent Dr. Tony Bennett; Gov. Mitch Daniels; commissioner of higher education Teresa Lubbers; state school board members; general assembly members; and Ileana Rodriguez, vice president of the college board.

Avon school Superintendent Dr. Timothy Ogle said AHS has placed an emphasis on giving seniors the greatest opportunity to achieve post-high school success with the Avon Advanced Learning Center. He said 26.2 percent of the school’s 2010 graduates passed at least one AP exam during high school.

Ogle said that the “appropriate kudos” should go to the high school faculty, who has embraced and taken them to the highest level.
