An exciting weekend is on tap for fans of the Avon Orioles with a couple of championships on the line. It will begin tonight when the Oriole football team will play in their fifth consecutive sectional championship game.

The Orioles will host the Pike Red Devils at Oriole Stadium in a game that will kick off at 7 o’clock. Avon advanced to the championship game when Niles Edwards hit a 43 yard field goal as time expired last week to give the Orioles a 16 – 14 victory over Terre Haute North. The Orioles look to capture their second sectional championship in five attempts, their last coming in 2010. The ROrioed Devils come into tonight’s game with a record of 8 – 3 having defeated Ben Davis and Zionsville to reach tonight’s championship game.

The Orioles have a record of 7 – 4 but are undefeated at Oriole Stadium this season. Avon has not lost a Pike in 3 meetings over the last 15 years including a 24 – 21 sectional win in 2011.

On Saturday the focus will shift to the Avon Orioles volleyball team as they have return to the state finals where the 34 – 5 Orioles ranked number 4 in the state of Indiana will meet the #2 ranked Carmel Greyhounds for the state championship.

The Orioles defeated 3rd rank Columbus East and 10th ranked Cathedral on Saturday to advance to the state championship game. It will be the 2nd time that Avon has faced Carmel this season. The Orioles fell to the Greyhounds back on August 21 three games to none.
