• Avon festival to once again go out with a bang

    September 23, 2011 No comments

After last year’s drought forced cancellation of the fireworks at Avon’s Community Heritage Festival, this year they are set to return with a bang.

Doug Elmore, president of this year’s festival said that the fireworks display is scheduled for about 9 p.m. tomorrow evening — weather- and darkness-dependent.

The fireworks cap the weeklong festival and an all-day exposition of food, games, crafts and fun at Washington Township Park, 115 S. Hendricks County Road 575 East.

Events tomorrow begin with a fund-raising breakfast for Hendricks County Project A.N.G.E.L. (Area Neighbors Giving Extra Love). The group provides toys, clothes and food at Christmas to families in need. The breakfast is from 7 to 10 a.m. at Avon United Methodist Church, 6850 E. U.S. 36.

Festival fun will continue non-stop, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., at Washington Township Park. The annual parade begins at 10 a.m. at Kingsway Christian Church, 7981 E. County Road 100 North.

Elmore says that The Heritage Festival is a “good old-fashioned fall festival” aimed at bringing the community together and giving residents — and neighbors — a chance to have a nice time.
