• Avon Community School Corporation announces changes in its administration

    The Avon Community School Corporation announced yesterday during its school board meeting changes to its administration. With the previously announced promotion from associate superintendent to superintendent of schools of Dr. Margaret Hoernemann replacing outgoing superintendent Dr. Tim Ogle, Hoernemann and the board announced the filling of the associate superintendent and assistant superintendent positions.

    Dr. Kent DeKoninck was promoted from assistant superintendent to associate superintendent and Maryanne McMahon from director of elementary education to assistant superintendent.

    DeKoninck began his career as a teacher and counselor at Monrovia High School and his administration career began in Westfield as a guidance director and assistant principal at Westfield High School. He has also served as principal at Perry Meridian Middle School, as well as in Carmel.

    McMahon earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana State University, a masters degree in elementary education from IUPUI, an administrative certification from Butler University, and a doctorate degree from Indiana State University. She began teaching in Decatur Township and advanced to the position of staff development consultant for curriculum and instruction in the school system. She also served as assistant principal at Decatur Middle School and as a principal with the Avon Community School Corporation.

    The school board also approved Hoernemann’s contract during yesterday’s meeting.
