The Indianapolis Star has announced its All-West Soccer honors with several local student-athletes receiving accolades.

Brownsburg’s Rio James took the 2010 All-West Girls Soccer Player of the Year award.  James scored 13 goals on the season including three during the playoffs as she helped lead the Bulldogs to a semi-state appearance this year.

James has received a scholarship to play at the University of Toledo and plans to major in occupational therapy upon her graduation from Brownsburg this year.

Avon’s Kyle Sparks was named as the Star’s All-West Boys Soccer Player of the Year for the second year in a row. Sparks finished the season with 11 goals and 11 assists as the Orioles won their second straight regional championship.

Sparks will graduate this year ranking fourth all time at Avon in goals scored, second in assists and fourth in points. Sparks will move on after this year to play at traditional powerhouse Indiana next season.
