Tens of thousands of Hoosier voters already have cast absentee ballots in advance of the May 8 primary election, and the pace is expected to quicken this week.

Early absentee votes may be cast until noon May 7.

Voters do not need to state a reason to vote early, but they must show a valid photo identification issued by the state or federal government.

Today is the deadline to submit an application to vote by mail in the primary.

The Indiana secretary of state’s website, which includes detailed instructions and information about the election process and eligibility for casting a vote, indicates 25,600 absentee ballots had been cast as of April 13. Those included 4,800 ballots cast by voters who walked into their county courthouses or other sites designated by the clerks of their counties.

In Hendricks County, voters wishing to vote by absentee ballot can do so from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Hendricks County Government Center, first floor, 355 S. Washington St., Danville.
