A mother and her two sons are in jail after Danville police said they picked a fight with officers Wednesday in Danville.

The trouble started when a man vandalized a vehicle outside the Hendricks County Courthouse after his brother’s girlfriend had been involved in a case Wednesday. Danville police said 25 year old Garrett Ballard caused more than $1,000 in damage to the vehicle by scratching it with a key.

Wednesday afternoon, four Danville police officers went to the home at 295 E. Mill St. to arrest Ballard in connection with the vandalism. According to Detective William Wright, during the arrest, Ballard’s mom, Paula Cline, a former emergency dispatcher, began interfering with police and become verbally and physically abusive. Police say her other son 21 year old David Cline also came outside and began attacking one the officers.

The two officers were injured during the arrest. Police said Officer Christopher Gill suffered cuts to his arm, and Wright complained of neck and back pain. Both were treated at Hendricks County Regional Hospital and released.

Police arrested and charged the three family members with resisting arrest. Ballard faces an additional charge of criminal mischief in connection with the vandalism act. Wright said Ballard was on probation at the time of the incident.

The mother, who had prior medical concerns, was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and released. She was then booked into the Hendricks County Jail, joining her two sons.
