An Avon woman has been arrested for her involvement in a May accident in which an Indianapolis woman was killed.

On May 5th, Avon Police responded to a report of a head-on collision in the 9500 block of County Road 100 North. Police say evidence showed that 24 year old Erin S. Christie’s 2001 red Oldsmobile Alero traveled left of center and was the primary cause of the accident. Her vehicle struck a 1999 silver Saturn, operated by 59 year old Arla M. Hancock of Indianapolis. Hancock was taken to IU West Hospital in Avon, where she was pronounced dead as a result of injuries suffered in the accident.

Police said they believed Christie of Avon, was distracted by her cell phone just prior to the crash.

As required by law in fatal crashes, a sample of Christie’s blood was collected and submitted to the Indiana State Police laboratory. Results came back in June indicating the presence of marijuana and methadone in her system.

Christie was charged with one count of operating a vehicle under the influence of a Schedule I or II drug and causing death, a class B felony. She is being held at the Hendricks County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
