2 people are killed as car smashes into Indianapolis west side restaurant
October 24, 2011 No commentsTwo people died early Sunday when the car they were in crashed into an Indianapolis restaurant.
27-year-old James Granberry and his girlfriend, 25-year-old Ericka Phillips were the only ones in the vehicle when it crashed into DeeGusto’s restaurant, 1430 W. Washington St., about 3:30 a.m. Sunday. The victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses told investigators the car slid several hundred feet jumping the curb and bursting into flames before it crashed into the restaurant.
No one else was injured. The restaurant was closed at the time of the accident.
According to Indianapolis Fire Department the impact compromised the structural integrity of the building. The IFD Collapse Rescue Team was called to the scene to stabilize the building.
