Alcohol may be a factor in a crash that left an 18-year-old woman dead Tuesday morning on the Indianapolis’ north side.

The IMPD Fatal Alcohol Crash Team was called to the 5700 block of North Guilford Ave. around 5 a.m. after officers on the scene determined alcohol may have played a factor in the crash.

Officers say the 18-year-old woman was a passenger in a Silver Volkswagen Passat. The 21-year-old male driver was trapped in the car for 30 minutes while rescue crews worked to free him from the wreckage. He was taken to Wishard Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police say he was in good condition.

Police withheld the identities of the driver and passenger pending further investigation and notification of next of kin.
