General-admission tickets for next month’s inaugural Big Ten Conference football championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium sold out in less than two hours over the summer.

A total of 1,100 more tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. Those seats had been allotted to sponsors and now will be available through Ticketmaster.com.

Conference officials were in Indianapolis on Wednesday for one of their final meetings, anxiously awaiting the outcome of the Legends and Leaders division races.

Local officials do not think either division champion will have trouble selling its 15,000-seat block of tickets.

Michigan State and Penn State lead their respective divisions and can clinch at least a share of the championship with a victory Saturday. But if either loses, three teams in each division still have a chance to qualify for the Dec. 3 championship game.

Besides the 30,000 tickets allotted to the two schools, the game will have a broad base of fans from throughout the country. General-admission tickets were purchased by fans in 46 states in July, with preseason favorites Ohio State and Nebraska at the top of the list.

Preparation for the event, which was awarded to the city in June, has gone smoothly, according to officials.
